How the 918 and the P1 differ

Both were built from 2013 to 2015 and, with the Ferrari LaFerrari, are the three hybrid hypercars that defined the decade. Both are built around a carbon-fibre monocoque, but their drivetrains differ. The 918 Spyder is a plug-in hybrid with a naturally aspirated 4.6-litre V8 of 608 PS and two electric motors, one on each axle, for 887 PS and 1,280 Nm and four-wheel drive, through a seven-speed PDK gearbox. The P1 combines a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 with one electric motor for 916 PS, and drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Porsche built exactly 918 Spyders, McLaren 375 P1s for the road. The 918 has a removable targa roof, and in September 2013 a 918 with the Weissach Package lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:57, the first street-legal production car under seven minutes. Porsche quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and 345 km/h.
