About the Aston Martin DBS

Aston Martin has used the DBS name for three different cars. The original DBS (1967–1972) is a four-seat grand tourer with a 4.0-litre straight-six; from 1969 it was also sold as the DBS V8 with a 5.3-litre V8. It was James Bond's car in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

The DBS of 2007–2012 was a lighter, more powerful version of the DB9, with a 517 PS 5.9-litre V12, carbon-fibre panels and carbon-ceramic brakes; the Volante arrived in 2009. The DBS Superleggera (2018–2022) is based on the DB11 and has a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 with 725 PS. The DBS 770 Ultimate, revealed in 2023 with 770 PS, closed the line.

What to check when buying an Aston Martin DBS

  • Know which DBS it is: the 1960s classic, the 2007 car and the Superleggera are completely different cars in different price brackets.
  • On a 2007–2012 DBS, check the carbon-ceramic brakes, which are expensive to replace, and whether the car has the manual gearbox or the Touchtronic automatic.
  • On a Superleggera, look for tyre and brake wear: 900 Nm of torque is hard on the rear tyres.
  • For a classic DBS, the quality of the restoration and a documented history matter more than anything; have the body checked for corrosion.
