About the Ferrari 360

The 360 (1999–2005) replaced the F355 and was Ferrari's first road car with an aluminium chassis and body. It is larger, lighter and stiffer than its predecessor. The naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V8 produces 400 PS and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual or the F1 automated manual gearbox.

The 360 Modena coupé was joined in 2000 by the 360 Spider. The Challenge Stradale (2003) is a road version of the one-make racing car: about 110 kg lighter, with 425 PS and carbon-ceramic brakes, and it is by far the most valuable 360. The F430 replaced the 360 in 2004.

What to check when buying a Ferrari 360

  • The cam belts need replacing every few years regardless of mileage; ask when it was last done.
  • On F1 cars, check the clutch wear and the F1 pump; manual cars are rarer and usually cost more.
  • Early cars (before 2001) can suffer cam-variator failures, and the pre-catalysts in the exhaust manifolds can break up and damage the engine; ask whether both have been dealt with.
  • The aluminium body does not rust, but repairs are specialist work; look for signs of accident damage. Sticky interior switches are common as the soft-touch coating ages.
