The year is the year of first registration; years with fewer than 3 cars for sale are left out. A car counts as sold when its listing disappears after at least 3 days online and does not come back at the same seller within a month; its last asking price is not necessarily what it sold for. Days to sell come from AutoScout24 and PistonHeads, the portals that show when a listing went online.

About the Audi R8
Revealed in 2006, the first Audi R8 (Type 42) was Audi's first mid-engined supercar. It was built by quattro GmbH at Audi's Neckarsulm plant, with an aluminium space frame and quattro all-wheel drive as standard.
It launched with a 420 PS 4.2-litre V8 from the RS 4. In 2009 the 525 PS 5.2-litre V10 followed, a close relative of the engine in the Lamborghini Gallardo. The 2012 facelift brought the 550 PS V10 plus and replaced the automated R tronic gearbox with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch.
The second generation, built from 2015, is listed separately as the Audi R8 4S.
What to check when buying an Audi R8
- Cars with the six-speed manual in its open metal gate are the most sought after and usually cost more than R tronic cars.
- The R tronic single-clutch gearbox is jerky at low speed and wears its clutch; ask for a clutch-wear reading from an Audi dealer or specialist.
- If the car has Audi magnetic ride, check the dampers for leaks: they are expensive to replace.
- The 4.2 FSI V8 builds up carbon on its intake valves; on a higher-mileage car, a documented intake clean is a plus.
- Look behind the front grilles: the radiators collect road debris and can corrode.
