About the Aston Martin V8 Vantage

The V8 Vantage (2005–2017) brought Aston Martin to a wider audience as a smaller, more affordable two-seater. It has a naturally aspirated V8 at the front, first with 4.3 litres and 385 PS, and from 2008 with 4.7 litres and 426 PS. It was offered as a coupé and, from 2007, as a Roadster, with a manual gearbox or the automated Sportshift.

The V8 Vantage S (2011) has 436 PS and a seven-speed Sportshift gearbox. Special editions such as the N400, N420 and N430 were followed by the GT8 (2016), limited to 150 cars with 446 PS. The V12-engined version has its own page, the V12 Vantage; the successor is the new Vantage of 2018.

What to check when buying an Aston Martin V8 Vantage

  • On Sportshift cars, ask for a recent clutch-wear reading; the automated manual wears its clutch faster than a conventional manual.
  • The 4.7-litre cars from 2008 onwards have more power and are worth more than the early 4.3-litre cars.
  • Look underneath for corrosion on the subframes and suspension parts.
  • Ask for a full service history with Aston Martin or a known specialist, and on a Roadster, check the roof and its seals.
