About the McLaren P1

The P1 (2013–2015) is McLaren's first hybrid hypercar and, with the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder, one of the three hybrid hypercars that defined the decade. A 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor produce 916 PS together, sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

McLaren built 375 road cars around a carbon-fibre monocoque. Active aerodynamics and a hydraulic suspension that lowers the car in Race mode make it as capable on track as it is fast in a straight line. The track-only P1 GTR followed in 2015.

What to check when buying a McLaren P1

  • The high-voltage battery is the most expensive single component; ask McLaren for a battery health report.
  • Many P1s have covered very few miles, but seals, fluids and tyres still age. A recent, documented service at a McLaren retailer matters.
  • Check whether the car has McLaren Special Operations (MSO) options, which can add significant value, and that they are documented.
