How the 348 and the F355 differ
The F355 replaced the 348 in 1994, and both were designed at Pininfarina. The 348 (from 1989) has a 3.4-litre V8 with 300 PS, or 320 PS in the Spider, GTB and GTS of 1993; the "t" in 348 tb and ts stands for its transverse gearbox. The F355 has a 3.5-litre V8 with five valves per cylinder and 380 PS at 8,250 rpm.
Both came as a coupé, a targa and a Spider: the 348 tb, ts and Spider, and the F355 Berlinetta, GTS and Spider. A six-speed manual was standard on the F355, and from 1997 it was the first Ferrari road car offered with the F1 paddle-shift gearbox. On both, the cam belts are changed with the engine out of the car. Ferrari built 2,894 348 tb and 4,228 ts cars, and 11,273 F355s.
