About the McLaren 720S

The 720S (2017) replaced the 650S at the heart of McLaren's range. Its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 720 PS, good for 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 341 km/h. The car is built around McLaren's carbon-fibre Monocage II and uses hydraulically interconnected suspension.

The 720S Spider (2019) added a folding hard top. The 765LT is the lighter, more powerful Longtail version, and in 2023 the 720S made way for the 750S.

What to check when buying a McLaren 720S

  • Check the service history with a McLaren retailer and whether the car qualifies for McLaren's extended warranty.
  • Keep the 12-volt battery on a conditioner when the car stands still: a weak battery causes many of the electrical faults reported on McLarens.
  • Test the nose lift, the suspension modes and, on a Spider, the folding roof.
  • Look for paint protection film on the nose; stone chips on the front end are common.
