About the Ferrari 488

The 488 replaced the 458 in 2015 and brought turbocharging back to Ferrari's mid-engined V8, for the first time since the F40. Its 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 670 PS and 760 Nm; the name refers to the capacity of one cylinder, 488 cc. The 488 GTB coupé was joined by the 488 Spider with a folding hard top.

The 488 Pista (2018) is the hardcore version: 720 PS, about 90 kg lighter and with aerodynamics developed from Ferrari's racing cars. A Pista Spider followed, as did a small series of Pista Piloti Ferrari for customers who race with Ferrari. The F8 Tributo replaced the 488 in 2019.

What to check when buying a Ferrari 488

  • Ferrari's seven-year maintenance programme covers servicing from first registration; check how much of it is left and whether the car can get a Ferrari Power extended warranty.
  • On a Spider, operate the folding roof several times and check the seals.
  • Options such as carbon parts, a front lift and special paint have a large effect on price; compare the specification, not just the mileage.
  • On a Pista, check for track use: look at the tyres, brakes, splitter and underside, and ask about the optional carbon wheels.
