About the Ferrari 599

The 599 GTB Fiorano (2006–2012) replaced the 575M Maranello as Ferrari's front-engined V12 two-seater. Its name combines the engine's 5,999 cc, Gran Turismo Berlinetta and Ferrari's Fiorano test track. Pininfarina designed it under Jason Castriota, with flying-buttress rear pillars that also add downforce. It was the first Ferrari GT with an aluminium chassis and introduced the F1-Trac traction control.

The 6.0-litre V12, a version of the Enzo's engine, makes 620 PS; at launch the 599 was the most powerful series-production Ferrari road car. Almost every car has the six-speed F1 automated manual: only 30 were built with a manual gearbox. The HGTE package sharpened the handling. The 599 GTO (2010) with 670 PS was limited to 599 cars and lapped Fiorano a second faster than the Enzo; the open SA Aperta (80 cars) used the same engine. The F12berlinetta replaced the 599 in 2012.

What to check when buying a Ferrari 599

  • Know the version: the 620 PS GTB Fiorano, a car with the HGTE package, the 670 PS GTO (599 built) and the SA Aperta (80 built) are priced very differently.
  • Some GTB Fioranos have been converted to look like a GTO. Check the chassis number and the documents against the version the seller claims.
  • On a car with the F1 gearbox, ask for a clutch-wear reading: the clutch is a wear part and expensive to replace.
  • Carbon-ceramic brakes were an option; check which brakes the car has and the condition of the discs. A full Ferrari service history adds a lot of confidence.
