About the Ferrari 296 GTS
The 296 GTS is the open version of the 296 GTB, unveiled in April 2022. Its two-piece retractable hard top folds over the front of the engine in 14 seconds, at up to 45 km/h, and the name refers to the 308 GTS of the 1970s. The vertical rear window can be lowered electrically, and a glass panel in the engine cover shows the V6.
The drivetrain is that of the coupé: a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with a 120° angle between the cylinder banks (663 PS) and a 167 PS electric motor, together 830 PS, with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The 7.45 kWh battery gives about 25 km of electric range. The GTS weighs 70 kg more than the GTB, for the extra stiffening of the body, but Ferrari quoted the same performance: 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and more than 330 km/h.
As on the GTB, the Assetto Fiorano package adds adjustable Multimatic dampers, carbon-fibre aero parts, weight savings and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres. The 296 Speciale A (2025, 880 PS) is the open version of the 296 Speciale; all 296 versions for sale are on the 296 overview.
What to check when buying a Ferrari 296 GTS
- Operate the hard top several times, and check the seals and the electric rear window.
- Check whether the car has the Assetto Fiorano package; it changes the character of the car and its value.
- Some listings give 663 PS: that is the V6 on its own. The total system output is 830 PS.
- Ferrari's seven-year Genuine Maintenance programme passes to the next owner; check how much of it is left, and ask about the condition of the high-voltage battery.
