About the Ferrari Daytona

The 365 GTB/4 was presented at the 1968 Paris Motor Show. It is better known as the Daytona, after Ferrari's 1-2-3 finish at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1967, although Ferrari never made the name official. Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina gave it a sharp-edged shape. Early cars have fixed headlights behind an acrylic panel; from 1971 it had pop-up headlights, required for the United States.

The front-mounted 4.4-litre Colombo V12 has 352 PS at 7,500 rpm and 431 Nm, with a five-speed manual transaxle at the rear; the top speed is 280 km/h. Ferrari built 1,284 coupés, 122 open 365 GTS/4s and 15 lightweight competition cars. The front of the 12Cilindri (2024) refers to the Daytona.

What to check when buying a Ferrari Daytona

  • Check whether a spider is a factory 365 GTS/4 or a converted coupé: Ferrari built only 122 open cars, and many coupés were converted later.
  • Check which headlights the car has: early cars have a fixed acrylic panel, later ones pop-up headlights.
  • Ask for the car's history and whether it has Ferrari Classiche certification, which confirms that the main parts are original.
