The 456 is Ferrari's front-engined V12 four-seater of the 1990s, the successor to the 412. Pietro Camardella at Pininfarina designed it, and Ferrari unveiled the 456 GT in 1992. The 5.5-litre V12 has 442 PS. The GT has a six-speed manual gearbox; the GTA, from 1996, a four-speed automatic.
The 456M ("Modificata") followed at the Geneva motor show in March 1998, with revised styling, better aerodynamics and the larger brakes of the 550 Maranello. It was the last Ferrari with pop-up headlamps. Ferrari built 1,548 456 GTs, 403 GTAs, 688 456M GTs and 650 456M GTAs before the 612 Scaglietti replaced it in 2004.
