About the Ferrari 412

The 412 (1985–1989) was the last development of the Ferrari 400, presented in April 1985. Its V12 grew to 4.9 litres and 340 PS, and it was the first Ferrari with ABS (from Bosch). Like the 400i it was offered with a manual or an automatic gearbox, without a badge that shows which.

The Pininfarina design by Leonardo Fioravanti was updated only in details. Ferrari built 576, 270 of them with a manual gearbox. The successor was the 456, presented in 1992.

What to check when buying a Ferrari 412

  • Check the gearbox: 270 of the 576 cars have a manual gearbox, the rest an automatic.
  • Check that the ABS works, and ask for the service history.
  • Ask whether the car has Ferrari Classiche certification, which confirms that the main parts are original.
