About the Aston Martin DB11

The DB11 (2016–2023) replaced the DB9 and was the first model of Aston Martin's "second century" plan. It was designed by Marek Reichman and built in Gaydon, on a new aluminium platform that it shares with the Vantage and the DBS Superleggera. Every DB11 has its engine mounted at the front, behind the front axle, with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed ZF automatic. The Volante, the convertible, went on sale in 2018.

It launched as the DB11 V12, with Aston Martin's own 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 and 608 PS. In 2017 the DB11 V8 followed, with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from Mercedes-AMG and 510 PS; the Volante was only sold with the V8. In May 2018 the DB11 AMR replaced the V12, with 639 PS. In July 2021 the AMR name was dropped: the 639 PS car was sold as the DB11 V12 again, and the V8 went up to 535 PS. The successor is the DB12 (2023).

What to check when buying an Aston Martin DB11

  • Check which version a car is: the V12 of 2016–2018 has 608 PS, the AMR and the later V12 have 639 PS, and the V8 has 510 PS, or 535 PS from mid-2021. A Volante is always a V8.
  • Ask for a full service history with an Aston Martin dealer or a known specialist, and ask whether any recalls have been carried out.
  • On a Volante, operate the roof several times and check the seals and the headlining for water marks.
  • Ask whether the car can join the Aston Martin Timeless certified pre-owned programme, or whether an extended warranty is available.

The first 100 cars were a Signature Edition in Stirling Green with lime accents. In July 2021 the AMR name was dropped and the car was sold as the DB11 V12.
