About the McLaren 12C

The 12C marked McLaren's return to road cars, 13 years after the F1 went out of production in 1998. It went on sale in 2011 as the MP4-12C; in 2012 McLaren shortened the name to 12C. More than 3,400 were built between February 2011 and April 2014.

The 12C has a carbon-fibre chassis, the MonoCell, and a mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The suspension, which McLaren calls ProActive Chassis Control, works hydraulically. At launch the V8 had 600 PS. From October 2012 it had 625 PS, and McLaren offered the extra power to existing owners at no cost.

The 12C Spider, with a retractable hard top, followed in 2012 and weighs 40 kg more than the coupé. In 2014 the 650S replaced both.
