About the Ferrari F430

The F430 (2004–2009) replaced the 360 and introduced two things that are now standard at Ferrari: the manettino drive-mode switch on the steering wheel and an electronic differential. Its naturally aspirated 4.3-litre V8 produces 490 PS. Buyers could choose between the F1 automated manual and a six-speed manual with an open gate.

The F430 Spider followed in 2005. The 430 Scuderia (2007) is about 100 kg lighter, has 510 PS and faster gearshifts, and was sold only with the F1 gearbox. The Scuderia Spider 16M, limited to 499 cars, celebrated Ferrari's sixteenth Formula 1 constructors' title. The 458 replaced the F430 in 2009.

What to check when buying a Ferrari F430

  • Manual cars are rare and sell for considerably more than F1 cars; check that a manual is original.
  • On F1 cars, ask for a recent clutch-wear reading from a Ferrari diagnostic check; the clutch is a wear part.
  • Cracked exhaust manifolds are a known F430 problem; ask whether they have been replaced.
  • Sticky interior switches are common as the soft-touch coating ages. For a Scuderia or 16M, check the documentation and originality carefully.

Can you buy a Ferrari F430 with a manual gearbox?

Yes. The F430 coupé and Spider were offered with a six-speed manual with an open gate, but most were sold with the F1 automated manual, so manual cars are rare.
