About the Aston Martin Virage

Aston Martin used the name Virage twice. The first Virage, designed by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, was presented at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1988 and built from 1989 as the successor to the V8. Its 5.3-litre V8 got four-valve cylinder heads developed by Callaway. The Volante convertible followed in 1992 and the twin-supercharged Vantage in 1993; from 1996 the coupé was called V8 Coupé. The headlights come from the Audi 200, the rear lights from the Volkswagen Scirocco.

The second Virage was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011 and sat between the DB9 and the DBS. It has a 6.0-litre V12 with 497 PS, carbon-ceramic brakes as standard and adaptive dampers, as a coupé or a Volante. Production ended in September 2012, after just over 1,000 cars.

What to check when buying an Aston Martin Virage

  • Check which Virage it is: the V8 of 1988–1995 or the V12 of 2011–2012. The two share only the name.
  • From 1992 Aston Martin offered a 6.3-litre conversion for the V8 Virage; ask for the paperwork if a car has one.
  • On the V12 Virage, carbon-ceramic brake discs are expensive to replace; ask about their condition.
  • Ask for the complete service history.
